Project Description
Not a basement nor a tunnel, but an aquarium with Self-Healing Concrete
Instead of pouring Self-Healing Concrete at one of its traditional applications like a basement or infrastructure object, Salverda Bouw did something different. They used our unique technology for the ARTIS-Aquarium. As part of a large renovation project, ARTIS | Natura Artis Magistra has been looking to implement sustainable innovations into their projects. Good thing that Niki Loonen (recently awarded with the honors of most sustainable constructor of The Netherlands) was involved to advice on sustainable innovations in the field of concrete. Along with 2 other innovations, Niki suggested to use Self-Healing Concrete to assure longer service life and less maintenance in the future. All together this is another important step towards a much more sustainable use of concrete.
Not only the project team was on site, there were some special guests as well: a camera crew from Omroep WNL for the Dutch show #StandVanNederland – #Koplopers. We are already wondering how the broadcast will look like during the Climate Week in Autumn later this year.
Furthermore a special thanks to all parties involved for making this happen: ARTIS | Natura Artis Magistra (client), Salverda Bouw (contractor), ABT bv (engineering consultancy firm) and last but not least Theo Pouw Groep (concrete supplier).
